It's a Crazy Life...But it's Our Life...

June 17 - 22, 2013

On Monday June 17th the kids started swim lessons. They have really enjoyed it. They are learning a lot and I am not as scared about them in the water, although I still make them wear their life jackets when we are at my dad's work pool and seven peaks. (You know for my own peace of mind...LOL)

Here are some pictures of their first day of swim lessons...

Tuesday Nadia had a birthday party to go to as well. Lets be honest, she probably shouldn't have gone due to her behavior that day. But it was her first friend birthday party and I didn't want her to miss out and have a bad memory, so we let her go.
But, before letting her go, we let her decide her punishment...she choose to be grounded from the TV and her art stuff for a week. (Let me tell you, it has been a very long week...FOR ME!!!)
It has been awhile since she has had a huge melt down like that and I knew there was one brewing eventually and because it has been so long since her last one, this one lasted 3 hours. 3 hours people!!!! That is a long tantrum of slamming doors, screaming, crying, and yelling at me. It was nuts.
Our house is not perfect by any means and neither are Joe and I. We make mistakes as well. She has worked really hard to turn her bad day around so she could go to 7 peaks and we are proud of her for that.

Also on Tuesday we had our 2nd "Stop and Go Therapy". The kids go to their own age group therapy sessions and the parents go to their own. These therapy sessions have been really hard for me and we have only attended 2...hahaha... They are hard because even though Joe and I were not apart of the kids abuse and neglect, we still have to come to terms with it and try to understand where the kids are coming from and how to better handle them and their anger. It just so happens that this day was already an emotional and frustrating day, but when we got to therapy, the subject was on feelings... you can only imagine what I was thinking when I heard the topic... "Oh great!!!! This is going to be good!!! FEELINGS!!! Are you sure you want to hear what is going on in this head of mine right now? But as it would turn out, it was a really good therapy session and I came away refreshed and ready to start the next day.

One of the things we have been struggling with the girls (especially Raven) is that they climb all over everyone, even people they don't know. (ex: a high school friend I might run into at the store, but that they have never met). For me this is stressful and I don't feel like it is safe, just to crawl all over everyone especially strangers. But I was reminded in therapy this night that it is a survival skill that these kids learned in order to get their needs met. We are making progress, even though it slow progress. But progress is progress right? Right!!! We will take what we can get.

On the way home Carson in his innocence and without even knowing it reminded why we choose Foster Care and Adoption.
This was the conversation we had:

Carson: Go faster daddy, I want to go home
Me: Why do you have a hot date?
Carson: Yeah
Me: With who?
Carson: You guys

So cute!!! Buddy!!! I would love to be your date, now where you taking me? LOL

Even though we have our hard days and wonder what we got ourselves into sometimes, we are reminded in sweet little simple ways why we took this road, we call life. Raven, Nadia and Carson are the sweetest little things. We really did get lucky with these kids. They have adapted to life, and for the most part have accepted what has been dealt them.

Today we went to Seven Peaks...It was way hot today. But we had a ton of fun. It was nice to be able to hang out with dad. The kids and I usually go do something with my mom or sister while dad is at work so they were excited when we told them what we were doing for the day. They have been working on behavior all week so we could go.
