It has been a "Hell of a Vacation"!!!!
Our vacation started with us going up to Scofield for the 4th of July weekend. We went up Friday early afternoon and got set up and then we headed out to the lake to have some water fun. Joe and Carson didn't want to so they stayed back at camp, but the rest of us went. There was my sister, her husband and kids, my brother and his husband, my parents and then me and the girls. Raven was coming out of the lake when she felt something cut her leg. My dad, and one of my brother in laws went down the canyon with me. There was no time to go back to town where our property is that we camp on to get Joe so I had to leave my two girls freaking out with my mom, sister, brother and brother in law until they got back to camp and then Joe could help calm them down.
We came home on Sunday from that trip. We quickly got some laundry done and started packing for our Yellowstone trip. We were having family pictures taken on Tuesday so we couldn't leave until early Wednesday morning.
Things went really well on our trip. It was just Joe and I and the kids. We had a lot of bonding time since there really was no phone or internet access. By Sunday July 12 we all had pretty much had all we could take of the car and we were all a bit crabby as we still had a 9 hour drive home. We were stopped in the middle of nowhere Montana using the restroom and restocking on drinks and snacks when we went to get back in the car, somehow Quynsie ended up smashing 3 of her fingers in the van door. They swelled and bruised really fast. We told her that we would take her first thing Monday morning to get them looked at since we were in the middle of nowhere and it would be late by the time we got home. But all in all, I would say it was a successful vacation, even though Raven was still healing from her injury and Quynsie smashing her fingers.
Tuesday July 7th:
Carson got his first set of glasses, just in time for family pictures that night. I think they are too big for his face, but he wanted them and could not be persuaded to anything else, so that is what he got.
Day 4 of Raven's cut. Still not liking how it was stitched up, but what do I know? I am not the doctor.
I took these pictures just before leaving to get our family ones done.
On our way home from getting pictures taken, we stopped by a friends house to get some clothes that she had for Carson that doesn't fit her boys anymore. Carson was so excited to go through them that he would not leave me alone so I said,
Carson I have more things to worry about than going through clothes right this minute like getting ready for our trip and he said the one that we could get killed by the volcanoes?
We loaded the car Tuesday night so that we could just get up Wednesday morning and go.
Wednesday July 8
Carson was so excited to go on vacation that he was up at 4am and would not go back to bed. We were not leaving until 6.
And we are off.
Greetings from Idaho. We had never taken the kids out of Utah, so there were tons of cheers when we crossed that boarder.
Thursday July 9
Traffic in Yellowstone sucks!!!
Friday July 10
Here are a couple of pictures of our Family photo shoot. I have not had the time to download all of the pictures from our photographers sight yet, but hopefully these will do for now.
I can't wait to get a chance to look at the rest because I am loving these three.
Sunday July 12
In our week and a half vacation we have had stitches (raven) smashed toes and fingers (Nadia) and really smashed fingers that might be broken (Quynsie). Nadia's happened when Joe went to shut the door on the van and she didn't get her hand and toes out of the way fast enough, and Quynsie smashed her own in the van door somehow. And of course they all have happened in the middle of nowhere. We have taken a vote and our next vacation will be taken somewhere close to civilization so that if we need a hospital we can get to it easily. Depending on how Quynsie's fingers look when we get home I might be taking her in the morning to get them looked at. They swelled really fast and turned purple fast as well so we shall see.
NOW THE PICTURE OVERLOAD:
Hey look!!! Mom and Dad were on the vacation as well...LOL...I don't take many pictures of just us, it is all about the kids.
White water
Day 3 of the trip
Still not liking the looks of it.
This was in Mammoth Hot Springs. The kids were shocked when they saw the phone booth. They had no clue what it was or why it was there so we had to have a little educational conversation to let them know that when we were kids, there was no such thing as a cell phone and so if you were out and about and needed to get ahold of someone, you had to use a pay phone.
Still not too good
We went a little over 1200 miles on this trip, but dang it was sure worth it. We had a great time as a family and were able to bond more because we were basically living off the grid. No phone service or internet or tv. Yes, the kids watched movies on the way there and on the way home, but there was none during the actual sight seeing.
